Colourful salads, red cabbage, tabbouleh and chicken skewers

Raw Rhubarb On the Road, Baby!

Saturday 29th August - Iain from The Seven Bees and I collaborated to run a food stall (my first) at Florence Road Market, a little farmers market just round the corner from Ditchling road in Brighton. Iain with his purely indulgent grilled cheese sandwiches - picture farmhouse bread butter both sides with salted Sussex butter, filled with 100g of three types of local Sussex cheese then grilled with a little extra cheese on top to crisp the other sides of the bread. The smell filling the air was that toasted cheesy buttery heaven and people were coming from all around to put a taste to that smell. Children loved it, men, women, even I had some (naughty) and Iain's last minute genius was to add some homemade apple compote which gave the final flavour a honeyed overtone.

My food was chicken that had been marinaded in spices overnight on a skewer (gotta love meat on a stick, come on) served with a choice of two salads which, due to popular demand, I'm going to list for you here:

Red cabbage, radish, red onion, lemon juice, coriander and seasoning

Buckwheat, lemon juice, cucumber, red onion, parsley and mint

But the quantities are a secret ;) if you want to taste it you will have to track us down at the next stall we do!

A great pairing of two completely different types of food - and the salads complemented the cheese beautifully - red onion (cheese's biggest fan) peppery radish for contrast and flavoursome herbs.  Hell Yes!
